I had a great experience at this clinic! I came in for a Pico Laser treatment and a treatment to remove my freckles, and I also got Botox in two areas of my face. They gave me a discount, which was a really nice bonus. Everyone was incredibly kind, professional, and welcoming. One of the things I appreciated the most is that everyone speaks English, including the doctors, so I was able to fully understand the consultation, the treatments, and the recommendations without any language barrier. I highly recommend this clinic, especially for foreigners who don’t speak Korean but still want to have a treatment where they can communicate comfortably and understand everything clearly. I felt very well taken care of throughout the whole experience. I would definitely come back! ❤️
a month agoKorean vs US Dermatology: Cost, Doctors, Booking
Last updated:
If you are used to seeing a dermatologist in the United States and are planning skin treatment during a trip to Seoul, a few things will work differently: how you book, who performs the treatment, how doctors are trained and titled, and how prices are shown. This guide compares the two systems side by side so you know what to check before you go.
The short answer
The biggest practical differences are in booking, who performs treatment and how prices are shown. In the US, a new patient waits an average of 36.5 days for a dermatologist appointment, while private clinics in Korea can be booked directly without a referral. In Korea, procedures such as laser treatments must be performed by a licensed doctor, while at US medical spas they may be performed by non-physicians depending on state law. Korean clinics must post or disclose their fees for non-insured treatments, and prices vary by clinic and treatment plan.

US and Korea side by side
| Topic | United States | Korea |
|---|---|---|
| Booking a new visit | Average new-patient wait for a dermatologist: 36.5 days (2025) | Private clinics can be booked directly |
| Referral | Depends on your insurance plan | Not needed to book a private clinic |
| Who performs treatment | At medical spas, may be nurses, physician assistants or aestheticians, depending on state law | Procedures such as laser treatments must be performed by a licensed doctor |
| Dermatology training | Medical school, 1-year internship, 3-year dermatology residency; board certification by the American Board of Dermatology | Medical school, 1-year internship, 4-year dermatology residency, national specialist exam |
| How prices are shown | Varies by practice | Clinics must post or disclose fees for non-insured treatments |
| Insurance for cosmetic treatment | Generally not covered | Paid out of pocket |
Booking: how long you wait
In 2025, the average wait for a new-patient dermatologist appointment across 15 major US metro areas was 36.5 days, according to AMN Healthcare's physician wait-time survey. The average across all specialties surveyed was 31 days.
In Korea, private clinics can be booked directly, without a referral. Availability still varies by clinic and season, so if you are visiting, contact the clinic before your trip and book your consultation early in your stay.
Who performs your treatment
In Korea, procedures such as laser treatments are medical acts, so they must be performed by a licensed doctor.
In the US, treatments at medical spas may be performed by nurses, physician assistants or aestheticians, depending on state law. The American Academy of Dermatology advises patients to ask who will perform the procedure. That question is worth asking in either country.
Doctor training and titles
In the US, dermatologists complete medical school, a one-year internship and a three-year dermatology residency, and may then become board-certified by the American Board of Dermatology.
In Korea, dermatology specialists complete medical school, a one-year internship and a four-year dermatology residency, then pass a national specialist exam. Any licensed doctor in Korea may provide skin treatments. Under Korea's Medical Service Act, only clinics run by dermatology specialists may use "dermatology" in the clinic name; other doctors may list dermatology as a treatment field.
Wherever you are treated, you can ask the clinic about the doctor's training and experience with the treatment you are considering.
How prices work
In the US, cosmetic skin treatments are generally not covered by health insurance. As one reference point, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons lists an average fee of $1,829 for skin resurfacing procedures such as laser skin resurfacing. That figure does not include facility, anesthesia or prescription costs.
In Korea, cosmetic treatments are also paid out of pocket. Clinics must post or disclose their fees for non-insured treatments, and prices vary by clinic and by treatment plan. Ask for the total price of your plan at the consultation, before treatment begins.
Korea previously offered a special VAT refund on cosmetic procedures for foreign patients. That provision ended, and a bill to reinstate it was still pending as of July 2026, so ask the clinic about the current rules rather than counting on a refund.

What Our Customers Say
The staff via whatsapp was friendly and responsive to accommodate last min change request to my appointment. The place was clean and comfortable and the lady doctor was helpful to suggest what’s good for me based on my needs. I find the procedures reasonably priced as there were some promotional offers. I managed to get there by 5.30pm for a last consultation and finished my treatments by 7:30pm (clinic closes at 7pm) yet besides the lady doctor who performed the procedures, the lady assistant who helped to clean and prep my face and the male interpreter who stayed with her to explain in English to me step by step what she’s doing— were patient and thorough, I didn’t feel rushed at all. I feel very pampered. I’ll certainly come back again the next time I’m in Seoul!
4 months agoWhile getting ready for my wedding, I started looking into different skin treatments and ended up getting a skin booster injection along with Pico toning. My skin is naturally very thin and sensitive, so I was worried because it tends to react easily if a treatment doesn't suit me. But they carefully checked my skin condition first during the consultation, which made me feel a lot more comfortable. There was a little redness on the day of the treatment, but once I put on makeup the next day, it was barely noticeable. I was especially happy during my wedding photoshoot because my makeup went on so well My skin just looked healthy and fresh without needing heavy coverage!
5 months agoLove this Clinic! My husband got lifting and his skin looks amazing now, plus they have some snaks and English translator for your consultation 🫶🏻.
11 months agoI recently visited Dami Clinic and had a really great experience! The staff were extremely kind and welcoming, which made me feel very comfortable from the beginning. The doctor was not only kind but also very professional, explaining everything clearly and carefully. I especially enjoyed my Sylfirm X treatment, which helps with redness and pores. The whole process was smooth. I would definitely recommend Dami Clinic to anyone looking for professional skin care with a warm and friendly atmosphere! 🌸
