I had a great experience at this clinic! I came in for a Pico Laser treatment and a treatment to remove my freckles, and I also got Botox in two areas of my face. They gave me a discount, which was a really nice bonus. Everyone was incredibly kind, professional, and welcoming. One of the things I appreciated the most is that everyone speaks English, including the doctors, so I was able to fully understand the consultation, the treatments, and the recommendations without any language barrier. I highly recommend this clinic, especially for foreigners who don’t speak Korean but still want to have a treatment where they can communicate comfortably and understand everything clearly. I felt very well taken care of throughout the whole experience. I would definitely come back! ❤️
a month agoHow Seoul's Climate Can Change Your Skin
Last updated:
Many Americans who arrive in Seoul notice their skin behaving differently within days or weeks: oilier and breaking out in summer, or tight and flaky in winter. Often the climate is part of the reason. This guide explains Seoul's seasons, how they compare with the US Northeast and California, what humidity and cold do to the skin, and what simple changes can help.
The short answer
Yes, your skin can change after arriving in Seoul. Seoul is hot, humid and rainy in summer and cold and dry in winter. How much your skin notices depends on where you come from and when you arrive. The US Northeast has a broadly similar seasonal pattern, so the change is often smaller. Coastal California is drier in summer and milder in winter, so the contrast is usually bigger. Climates also vary within each coast, so treat this as a general guide.
Seoul's climate in numbers
According to Korea Meteorological Administration climate normals:
- Average relative humidity is 61.8% over the year, lowest in February and March (54.6%) and highest in July (76.2%)
- Summer (June to August) averages 71.8% humidity, while spring and winter average 56.3%, which is relatively dry
- About 63% of the year's precipitation falls in summer, and the rainy season, called jangma, runs from late June to late July
- January is the coldest month, averaging -1.9°C (about 28°F), and August the hottest, averaging 26.1°C (about 79°F)
Coming from the East Coast or the West Coast
The US Northeast, including New York and Boston, has a humid continental climate with cold winters and hot, humid summers, a pattern broadly similar to Seoul's. Coastal California, including Los Angeles, has a Mediterranean climate with dry summers, mild winters and most of its rain in winter.
| Season | Seoul | Coming from the Northeast | Coming from California | What your skin may do |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Summer (June to August) | Hot, very humid, rainy season | Familiar heat and humidity, with more rain | Much more humid than a dry California summer | Feel oilier and sweatier; some people break out |
| Winter (December to February) | Cold and relatively dry | Similar cold and dry air | Much colder than a mild California winter | Feel tight, flaky or more sensitive |
| Early spring (March) | Mild, among the driest months | Similar transition season | Colder, with some of Seoul's driest air | Dryness can continue after winter |
What humidity and cold do to your skin
A 2016 review in the Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology concluded that low humidity and low temperatures lead to a general decrease in skin barrier function. Skin also becomes more reactive to irritants and allergens, and cold, dry weather increases the risk of flares in people with atopic dermatitis (eczema).
Hot, humid weather works the other way. Skin tends to feel oilier and sweatier, which can contribute to breakouts in some people.
Simple adjustments by season
In summer:
- Switch to a lighter moisturizer
- Cleanse gently, especially after sweating
- Wear sunscreen daily
- Avoid layering heavy products
In winter:
- Use a richer moisturizer, especially after washing
- Cleanse gently and avoid hot water and harsh scrubs
- Protect your skin from cold wind
- Consider the humidity of heated indoor air
- Keep wearing sunscreen year-round
If dryness is your main concern, see which treatments fit winter dry skin.
When to see a doctor
Climate-related changes often settle once your routine adjusts. See a doctor if you notice:
- Breakouts that keep coming back
- Eczema that flares up
- Redness or irritation that does not settle with simple changes
FAQ
Q. Does Seoul's weather affect your skin?+
A. It can. Seoul's hot, humid summers and cold, dry winters can make skin feel oilier or drier than usual, especially if your home climate is different.
Q. Why is my skin breaking out in Seoul?+
A. Hot, humid weather tends to make skin feel oilier and sweatier, which can contribute to breakouts in some people. If breakouts keep coming back, have your skin checked by a doctor.
Q. Why is my skin so dry in Seoul in winter?+
A. Seoul's winters are cold and relatively dry, and low humidity and low temperatures reduce the skin's barrier function. A richer moisturizer and gentle cleansing can help.
Q. Is Seoul more humid than New York?+
A. Both cities have humid summers and cold winters, so the pattern is broadly similar. Seoul's summer also has a rainy season from late June to late July, when humidity peaks.
Q. Is Seoul drier than Los Angeles in winter?+
A. Seoul's winter is much colder than a mild Los Angeles winter, which is also when Los Angeles gets most of its rain. If you are coming from California, you may notice more tightness and flaking in a Seoul winter.
Q. What is the best season in Seoul for skin?+
A. It depends on your skin. Oily skin may find summer harder, while dry or sensitive skin may struggle more from December to March, when the air is driest. Adjusting your routine by season helps either way.
Q. When should I see a doctor?+
A. See a doctor if breakouts keep coming back, eczema flares up, or redness and irritation do not settle with simple changes.

What Our Customers Say
The staff via whatsapp was friendly and responsive to accommodate last min change request to my appointment. The place was clean and comfortable and the lady doctor was helpful to suggest what’s good for me based on my needs. I find the procedures reasonably priced as there were some promotional offers. I managed to get there by 5.30pm for a last consultation and finished my treatments by 7:30pm (clinic closes at 7pm) yet besides the lady doctor who performed the procedures, the lady assistant who helped to clean and prep my face and the male interpreter who stayed with her to explain in English to me step by step what she’s doing— were patient and thorough, I didn’t feel rushed at all. I feel very pampered. I’ll certainly come back again the next time I’m in Seoul!
4 months agoWhile getting ready for my wedding, I started looking into different skin treatments and ended up getting a skin booster injection along with Pico toning. My skin is naturally very thin and sensitive, so I was worried because it tends to react easily if a treatment doesn't suit me. But they carefully checked my skin condition first during the consultation, which made me feel a lot more comfortable. There was a little redness on the day of the treatment, but once I put on makeup the next day, it was barely noticeable. I was especially happy during my wedding photoshoot because my makeup went on so well My skin just looked healthy and fresh without needing heavy coverage!
5 months agoLove this Clinic! My husband got lifting and his skin looks amazing now, plus they have some snaks and English translator for your consultation 🫶🏻.
11 months agoI recently visited Dami Clinic and had a really great experience! The staff were extremely kind and welcoming, which made me feel very comfortable from the beginning. The doctor was not only kind but also very professional, explaining everything clearly and carefully. I especially enjoyed my Sylfirm X treatment, which helps with redness and pores. The whole process was smooth. I would definitely recommend Dami Clinic to anyone looking for professional skin care with a warm and friendly atmosphere! 🌸
